Rare Table Lamp by Gio Ponti

Italy | c. 1928 Glazed porcelain, brass, paper shade, cord. Early variant of a known Ponti form. This example has illustrations of cartography, animals, and religious iconography, among other things. Later iterations were typically decorated exclusively with maps. The underside is signed and displays a portion of a paper tag from Stewart's Department Store, which went through several names and locations within New York City. This particular label is for a location that opened in 1928 and closed in 1930 as a result of the 1929 Wall Street crash.
